Nina is the reason I started Diva Dawgs!
Nina's Story
I had been wanting another Chihuahua since my last one passed away when I was 19. I was looking through the local news paper and saw and ad for Chihuahua puppies. So I called the number and asked if I could come out, the lady said yes and gave me directions.
As I drove up I could see that this was the typical "breeder". Dogs everywhere and the smell of urine and poop as I got out of my car.
I walked in and the lady said: "Please have a seat, I will go get the puppies."
She came back with three tiny females, two all black with a little white and the third was Nina. It was love at first sight, there was just something in her eyes that said, please pick me.
I asked the lady if I could see the kennel and the parents, she replied NO, I don't let anyone back there and her parents are not here. It sent a red flag, that maybe I should just walk away, but I just couldn't turn my back on Nina. As I was handing over my money I noticed that Nina had a little cough as she drank her water, I didn't pay much attention at that time, I just wanted to take Nina home and get her out of that place.
After a couple of days Nina was limp and wouldn't eat or drink and her cough was much worse. I rushed her to the Vet. She had several infections, and kennel cough that was turning into pneumonia. The vet said that it was a good indicator that the kennel was dirty and the dogs were standing in their own feces. We spent $250.00 at the Vet that day. It took two months of hand feedings and around the clock nurturing to pull her through. Finally she was healthy.
Our Joy for her didn't last long a few months later all of her hair fell out and she was limping.
So again I rush her to the Vet.
This time she had allergies, we put her on more medication and a special diet.
The Vet informed us that she has slipping patella in both knees and that eventually she would need knee replacement or repair.
We were so sad for Nina, she deserved so much more than the hand she was dealt.
I was mad at careless people who bred dogs, the ones that don't care about what they are breeding. They just put two dogs together. The end result is a bunch of puppies with health problems that don't show up until later after they are sold.
And who does this hurt? It hurts Me and you and our poor dogs that never asked to be brought into this world like this!
So we took Nina back to the Vet and had her fixed. Since we have given her the best life we possibly can. She is our little Diva and the ruler of the house! Nina will never have puppies of her own, but can baby sit anytime she wishes.
She loves the puppies and plays with them as if they were her own.
We raise dogs so that you don't have to experience what we did with Nina. We care and it is Always about what is best for the DOGS!
